Police have arrested two men following the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during a late-night patrol in Kitty on Wednesday.
The suspects, identified as 24-year-old plumber Omar Cliffe of William Street, Kitty, and 23-year-old air conditioning technician Cort Williams of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, were apprehended around 23:30 hours by ranks from the Alberttown Police Station.
According to reports, the officers were on patrol in a marked police vehicle when they observed the two men on a motorcycle, bearing registration number CN 8462, traveling in the same direction on William Street.
Upon noticing the police, the men stopped their motorcycle and fled on foot, heading north into a nearby passageway.The officers gave chase, and during the pursuit, Cliffe was seen attempting to discard a firearm. A gunshot rang out, and Cliffe collapsed with the weapon still in his possession.
Police officers quickly apprehended both Cliffe and Williams at the scene. Cliffe, who appeared to have sustained an injury to his right foot, was found holding the firearm.The area was subsequently secured, and a spent .40-caliber shell was discovered. The suspects were transported to the Alberttown Police Station, where the firearm—a .40-caliber pistol—and five live rounds of ammunition were lodged as evidence.
The items were placed in separate evidence bags and are being sent for ballistic analysis.Cliffe was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) under police guard, where he was treated for a graze wound caused by the accidental discharge of the firearm.The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
