In a routine patrol operation, law enforcement officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle on Dennis Street near the Sophia Exhibition Centre, leading to the apprehension of two individuals and the seizure of an illegal firearm.
At approximately 11:20 hrs today, an Assistant Superintendent, a Sergeant, and two Constables were conducting a motor vehicle patrol when they spotted a black Premio sedan with heavily tinted windows bearing Registration #PAE 3982 traveling westward on Dennis Street. Upon intercepting the vehicle, officers observed the driver, identified as Rudy Vandermeer, a 28-year-old Taxi Driver from Norton Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, and passenger Michael Hopkinson, a 27-year-old unemployed resident of Princess Street and ‘A’ Field Sophia, behaving suspiciously. Following standard procedure, the officers requested to search both individuals and the vehicle, to which they consented. During the search, a .38 Taurus firearm along with three matching rounds of .38 Ammunition was discovered concealed under Hopkinson’s shirt, tucked into his right waist.Upon inquiry, Hopkinson admitted to not possessing a firearm license. Consequently, he was promptly arrested and taken into custody, along with Vandermeer, who is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The suspects were escorted to the Tukeyen Police Station for further processing and are expected to face charges related to the illegal possession of firearms. The swift and decisive action by law enforcement underscores their commitment to ensuring public safety and combating criminal activities within the community
