Head of State, President Irfaan Ali, last evening hosted a prestigious dinner event at State House, welcoming esteemed guests including former US President Bill Clinton, French Minister of the European Union and Foreign Affairs Stėphane Sėjournė, and a delegation from the Dominican Republic.
Clinton is the featured speaker at the United Caribbean Forum, organised by the Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce in Guyana aimed at strengthening partnership and investment opportunities within the region.
The two day affair commences today at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal.
Last evening President Ali, used the dinner event to underscore the strategic importance of fostering international relationships to propel Guyana’s economic development and growth. President Ali emphasised the timely nature of these visits, highlighting their alignment with the nation’s aspirations for progress.
In particular, President Ali commended former President Bill Clinton for his steadfast support of Guyana, citing his advocacy for biodiversity preservation and forest conservation in the face of climate change challenges. Clinton, renowned as the 42nd President of the United States (1993-2001), is currently in Guyana as a distinguished guest of the Dominican Republic’s Chamber of Commerce Caribbean Forum, set to commence today.
President Ali also seized the opportunity to underscore the significance of the Dominican Republic’s decision to host the forum in Guyana, emphasising its role in reinforcing the robust ties between the two nations and their respective private sectors.
Others at the illustrious gathering included Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo, as well as other government ministers, and leaders from the private sector. Notable diplomats, including US Ambassador HE Nicole Theriot, EU Ambassador HE Rene Van Nes, and British High Commissioner HE Jane Miller, were also among the distinguished guests present.
