Head of State, President Irfaan Ali, has emphasized the potential for collaboration between Guyana and the Dominican Republic to propel regional development, leveraging Guyana’s abundant resources with support from its Caribbean neighbor.
Speaking at a panel discussion during the United Caribbean Forum at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, President Ali highlighted the existing disparities between Guyana and global players in various industries. He reiterated the government’s commitment to bridging these gaps through strategic plans aimed at fostering sustainable growth.
President Ali identified key areas for potential partnerships between the two nations, including tourism, human capacity building, agriculture, energy, and technology. He emphasized the role of the private sector in fueling these collaborations, envisioning significant opportunities for investment, particularly in the food production industry.
Highlighting Guyana’s vast arable land and abundant freshwater resources, President Ali emphasized the potential for agricultural expansion when coupled with technology available in the Dominican Republic. He expressed optimism that tangible results could be achieved within the next five years through focused partnership efforts.
Former US President Bill Clinton, also present at the forum, commended Guyana’s strides in sustainable agriculture development. He praised Guyana’s approach to addressing climate change challenges and underscored its potential to set an example for other nations.
Clinton expressed his willingness to offer support to both Guyana and the Dominican Republic in their efforts to foster regional development. The inaugural United Caribbean Forum, organized by the Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce in Guyana, aimed to explore investment opportunities in the Caribbean to enhance regional capacity. The success of the event prompts plans for the next forum in July, to be hosted in the Dominican Republic.
