People’s National Congress Reform Executive Member and Shadow Minister for Legal Affairs for the opposition coalition’s A Partnership for National Unity, Alliance for Change (APNE+AFC) Senior Roysdale Forde S.C., today formally announced his bid to challenge incumbent Aubrey Norton at the August Party Congress.
Making the announcement today, Forde S.C. noted “we must rise above the fray of petty and lawless politics and chart a course towards a brighter, more inclusive future for our party and all Guyanese.”
According to Forde, together we can rebuild the mighty PNCR and our nation brick by brick. Until we stand as a tall permanent beacon of hope and possibility for generation to generation.”
As such, “I call on our members and supporters to come on this journey with me to regroup, refocus and rebuild as we work to make our party stronger than ever. Join me as we work together to unite the PNCR and rally the coalition to victory in 2025.”
Responding to Norton’s already publicly expressed optimism at being reelected
Grilled on his experience or lack thereof in terms of heading up the second oldest intimating that the party would not allow itself to be led by the inexperienced, Forde S.C. responded in the affirmative.
“I believe I bring to bear sufficient and adequate experience which will be able to impact positively on moving the party forward. I am aware that the leader said that he is experienced and the party would not want to be placed into the hands of an inexperienced person, I certainly agree with him.”
Qualifying his position further, Forde S.C told members of the media “I believe that my track record in and out of politics demonstrates sufficient that I will be able to bear to the task at hand.”
“I believe that I have done the work required, I have travelled throughout the length and breadth of Guyana, I have interfaced with our supporters and I believe that they have expressed their interest and confidence in seeing me as leader of the party.”
Addressing a ‘rift’ within the party as is evidence in his challenge, Forde S.C told reporters, he is confident that Norton’s work during his time in office was what he (Norton) believed was in the best interest of the party but “I have a different perspective; a different vision in terms of its implementation and how it will impact people.”
To this end, he was adamant it was not a case of Forde running against Norton, but rather said he was “it is Forde running for the party as a priority.”
