Dear Editor,
I would like to voice my opinion on your letter captioned ‘Now is the time to rectify NIS anomalies that may exist; do not wait until retirement.’
I have worked for fifteen years with GuySuco Uitvlugt Estate with unbroken service from 1979-1994.
I also worked one year with the Ministry of Education Uitvlugt Primary school from September 1994-1995 August. My contributions would have been submitted under the name Peggy Giddings B-6320881,this was later changed to Peggy Medas, my present title.
There is proof from the Estates record submitted that I have 785 contributions. However, on applying for my pension I received a grant of less than $40,000, which is unfair since whoever put together the information on Lenora’ s NIS side did an injustice. I have since 2022 submitted my appeal to the said office recently.
I personally checked in on the progress and was shown that your records do not match. There are some missing data on your record part, I worked a greater part of my life at Uitvlugt Estate in the preparation of NIS contributions being submitted on behalf of the Estate so I know the payments were made, I have also successfully represented those who had no voice or know how to successfully get their benefits while I was still in their employ, so I have a fair idea of the importance of records being timely and properly submitted.
I must express however, that this has been the most painful process to have worked honestly, and cannot get my due benefit. It should be noted that I will be 64 yrs as of December 2024 and I have not yet received it. My husband who worked longer than I recently began receiving his pension. We both worked with GuySuco and I am still awaiting mine and the estate record verifies my honest labour. It seems as though persons have to take different routes of redress to get the attention of the relevant authorities. I await a speedy and favourable response.I am due my pension and that’s what I am rooting for.
Mrs. Peggy Medas
