Guyana’s International Building Exposition 2024, the largest in the region, promises to showcase cutting-edge innovations in the housing and construction industries, offering a platform for government officials and industry leaders to explore transformative solutions. The event aims to position Guyana as a model for sustainable development in the Caribbean and South America.
Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, emphasized the significance of the expo during its official launch at the Ramada Princess Hotel on Thursday night. He highlighted the event’s role in bringing together homeowners, potential homeowners, and businesses from various sectors, including construction and manufacturing, at a central location.
Themed ‘Building on the Foundation of Sustainability and Unity,’ the expo will take place from August 8-11, 2024, at the National Stadium in Providence. “The International Building Expo 2024 will give us another opportunity to see new products and services in the housing and construction sectors,” Minister Croal stated. He expressed hope that both local and international suppliers would respond to the growing demand for sustainable and affordable building materials.
Last year’s expo introduced innovative products such as 3D-printed houses, solar technology, and eco-friendly building materials. Minister Croal reiterated the government’s commitment to sustainable housing, noting that over 1,067 houses have been handed over to new homeowners, with over 1,500 nearing completion. He attributed these achievements to the visionary leadership and sustainable partnerships between the government and industry stakeholders.
Minister Croal also encouraged participation from the diplomatic community, urging them to bring delegations from their home countries to showcase design, products, and construction trends. He revealed that 20 companies have already registered for the expo.
Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues, highlighted Guyana’s ambitious Silica City project, which will be showcased as the country’s premier low-carbon and climate-resilient urban city. The ‘Dream Realised’ house lot allocation and title distribution will be a central feature of this year’s expo, with thousands of Guyanese expected to receive house lots and land titles, adding to the 34,000 who have received theirs over the past three and a half years.
“We are a government that remains people-driven, and our investment in the housing sector is geared towards empowering Guyanese with homeownership,” Minister Rodrigues stated. She noted that the expo offers entrepreneurs a platform to launch new businesses, expand existing enterprises, and network with industry experts. The number of exhibitors has grown from 356 in 2022 to 450 in 2023, reflecting the expo’s increasing significance.
