The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security (MHSSS) has by way of a public istatement, disclosed the discovery of unauthorised copies of Old Age Pension and Permanent Disability books being submitted for encashment at post offices and other payment venues. The ministry noted that these counterfeit books lack the security features and colours of the official documents.
As such, the ministry has provided all relevant information and evidence to the Guyana Police Force, which has launched an investigation. Individuals found responsible for producing or distributing the unauthorised books will face legal action. The ministry also warned that anyone attempting to use the counterfeit books will be held accountable.
To combat the issue, the MHSSS has since also urged its staff, along with the Guyana Post Office Corporation and other payment facilities, to enhance vigilance in detecting counterfeit books.
The ministry has designated several offices across the country for the distribution of the official booklets. These include the General Office in Georgetown and regional offices in Port Kaituma, Mabaruma, Anna Regina, Pouderoyen, Mahaicony, New Amsterdam, Bartica, Lethem, and Linden.
