Seven men have been jointly charged with abduction in connection with an incident involving Joshua David, also known as ‘Bricks’, which occurred on 26 September 2024 on Main Street, Georgetown. The accused, Wayne Barker, Davantai Mars, Aaron Alleyne, Dwayne Griffith, Damion Barlow, Alpha Poole, and Osafo Peters, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court #5.
The charge, brought under Section 4 of the Kidnapping Act, Chapter 10:05, was read to the accused, none of whom were required to enter a plea. Prosecutor Inspector Jones opposed bail, arguing that police had received information suggesting the victim had been murdered, with efforts currently underway to locate the body. Inspector Jones also informed the court that the police were in possession of CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts linking the accused to the crime.
Despite the prosecutor’s objections, Acting Chief Magistrate McGusty ruled that abduction is a bailable offence under the Act and noted that the victim’s body had not yet been found. Each of the accused was granted bail set at GYD $500,000. As part of their bail conditions, the men must report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday between 08:00 and 16:00 hours.
The case has been adjourned until 13 November 2024.
