A 17-year-old from Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, was charged yesterday (Friday) with ‘Attempt to Commit Murder’, contrary to Section 103(c) of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.
The juvenile appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alisha George to answer the charge of ‘Attempt to Commit Murder’, committed on another 17-year-old on 3rd October 2024 at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
He was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre. The matter was adjourned to 28th November 2024 for continuation.
The charge stemmed from Police investigations into the alleged unlawful wounding committed on a 17-year-old from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, which occurred at Tuschen New Scheme (Second Street) at about 22:30 hrs on 03rd October 2024. The victim claimed that the juvenile and another suspect stabbed him multiple times.
BACKGROUND:
Enquiries disclosed that the victim and the two suspects are known to each other. On 2024-10-03, at about 22:00 hrs, the victim and the suspects were in a minibus. The victim then exited the bus at Tuschen New Scheme, and the suspects exited as well and chased behind the victim. The victim then ran and jumped into a yard in Second Street Tuschen New Scheme, and the suspects followed suit and dealt the victim several stabs about his body and made good their escape. The victim was later rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who deemed his condition as critical. He was transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he remains a patient.
Meanwhile, the second suspect was arrested and released on $200,000 bail, and a file was sent for further legal advice. The second suspect denied the allegations, and his report was corroborated by the juvenile who was charged and claimed he acted alone. However, the victim alleges that they both stabbed him.
