Police in Georgetown are investigating an alleged armed robbery involving a Japanese tourist, Yuki Nakata, who was reportedly held at knifepoint and robbed along Cemetery Road on Friday evening. Nakata, 46, is visiting Guyana and staying at a residence on Freeman Street, East La Penitence.
The incident occurred around 19:00hrs when two unidentified men, one armed with a knife, approached Nakata as he was walking north on Cemetery Road in search of a restaurant. The assailants allegedly robbed him of a black one-strap bag valued at $5,000, a Japanese passport, a Haowie mobile phone worth US$300, and a black Canon camera valued at US$100.
Nakata later reported the crime to the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost. Police conducted a search of the area, but the suspects were not located. Investigations are ongoing, and several individuals in the area have been questioned.
