In the early hours of Wednesday morning, police officers on patrol duty in Georgetown made a significant discovery when a firearm and ammunition were found in a suspicious vehicle.
At around 02:30hrs, officers patrolling near Norton Street and Mandela Avenue, an area known for drug activity, observed a group of men behaving suspiciously. When the police stopped their vehicle, the men dispersed in different directions. Attention was then drawn to a grey Wagon motorcar, bearing registration number PAG 3160, which was parked on the southern side of the road and locked at the time.
Officers questioned bystanders about the ownership of the vehicle, but no one came forward. During a search of the area, a car key was discovered on the ground near the vehicle. When tested, the key unlocked the car.Despite further inquiries, no one admitted to owning the vehicle.
A search of the car revealed a .40 calibre pistol, along with one magazine and 11 rounds of .40 ammunition, located in the glove compartment.Documents found in the vehicle included a registration in the name of Melissa Cox of Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, and a driver’s licence for Patrick Kireem Sanmoogan. However, efforts to locate either Cox or Sanmoogan have so far been unsuccessful.The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
