Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred around 11:40 a.m. today at Tech Guy Solutions, Middleton Street, Georgetown.
A 39-year-old businessman, the owner of the establishment, shot and injured an armed assailant who had demanded cash. The assailant, whose identity remains unknown, was armed with a .38 revolver, with the serial number filed off.
According to police reports, the businessman, who was seated at his premises, was carrying a licensed .32 Taurus pistol. The suspect entered the store under the pretext of requesting phone repairs before drawing his firearm and threatening the owner. At this moment, a 33-year-old businessman from Industry Crown Dam, East Coast Demerara, entered the store and was immediately targeted by the assailant.
A struggle ensued, during which the suspect fired a shot, injuring the man’s left hand.The business owner, seizing the opportunity, drew his firearm and discharged two rounds, hitting the suspect in the abdomen.
The wounded suspect fell to the ground, after which the businessman disarmed him and alerted the police.Upon their arrival, the police took possession of the firearm. The suspect was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he underwent surgery.
His condition is listed as serious.The 33-year-old victim was taken to Woodlands Hospital, where he was treated and admitted. His condition is reported as stable.The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
