A supervisor and a resident of Johnny P’s Supermarket in South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown, were robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday night by three armed bandits. The incident occurred at approximately 20:00 hrs at Lot 12 Aubrey Barker Road.
According to police, the female supervisor was preparing to close the supermarket when the assailants entered through an open door. One of the perpetrators, armed with a handgun, struck her in the face, causing a minor laceration, and forcibly took a gold chain from around her neck. Meanwhile, the two other assailants targeted a 51-year-old labourer residing in the upper flat of the building, stealing his Samsung cellphone valued at $45,000.
After assaulting the supervisor and robbing the labourer, the bandits reportedly then proceeded to the cash register, where they seized an undisclosed amount of Guyanese currency before fleeing the scene.
The authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the supermarket as part of their ongoing investigation into the robbery.
