An investigation is being called for into an incident that unfolded on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024, as the main bridge in Karasabai Village was intentionally set ablaze while a prominent political delegation, including Leader of the Opposition Aubrey C. Norton and Chairman of the Guyana Action Party Vincent Henry, MP, was conducting a community outreach.
The delegation, consisting of PNCR party executives Vinceroy Jordan, MP, Joan Romascindo, and Mervyn Williams, along with party activists and staff, found themselves at the heart of the village when the arson attack occurred.
Residents of Karasabai expressed deep concern and alarm over the incident, calling for a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators responsible for this criminal act. Many believe that such actions not only pose a threat to public safety but also aim to escalate political tension and destabilise the region.
According to reports, the timing of the arson attack suggests a deliberate attempt to trap the Opposition team within Karasabai, preventing them from continuing their outreach to neighbouring communities. This development comes in the context of alleged PPP activists visiting several villages and urging residents not to attend political outreaches. However, these efforts were rebuffed by villagers, who remained determined to voice their dissatisfaction with the current PPP administration.
Residents and political leaders alike are calling for swift action to investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
