Law enforcement officers at about 02:30 hrs this morning—acting on intelligence received, leading to the interception of a Toyota Allion vehicle with registration number PAE 2420, which was later searched and the driver found with an unlicensed weapon.
According to reports, the vehicle was trailed from a bar situated at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, to Crane Old Road, where it was subsequently stopped and subjected to a thorough search.
The driver, since identified as Samuel McIntyre, a 32-year-old self-employed individual hailing from Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, was informed of the intelligence suggesting that he may be in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Consequently, Police Ranks requested permission to search both his person and the vehicle, to which McIntyre consented.
According to the Police, during the search of the motorcar, law enforcement officers found a 9mm Taurus pistol accompanied by a magazine loaded with eight live rounds of matching ammunition. The police promptly confiscated the firearm and ammunition, informing McIntyre of the gravity of the offense committed.
McIntyre was cautioned, placed under arrest, and escorted, together with the suspected firearm and ammunition, to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station for further processing and legal proceedings.
