A 36-year-old security guard from Berbice, Amit Jowhair, also known as “Edwin,” has been charged with assaulting his wife and is currently remanded to prison.
Jowhair, a resident of Lot 37 Block ‘X’ Hampshire Village, Corentyne, was arrested on September 27, 2024, and formally charged on September 30 with Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm and other related offences against his 38-year-old wife, Jyoti Jowhair.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. He has been remanded to the New Amsterdam Prison pending his next court appearance, scheduled for October 4, 2024.
