The Aiden Hotel, a Best Western franchise, at the corner of Oronoque and Robb Streets in Georgetown was last evening officially opened by Head of State, President Irfaan Ali.
With 101 executive smart rooms, the hotel is equipped to cater to both business and leisure travellers, offering amenities such as a conference room, restaurant, bar, coffee shop, gym, sauna, and a rooftop lounge. The nine-storey modern facility, developed by the Arimu Investment Group, marks another significant addition to Guyana’s expanding hospitality sector.
The newly commissioned hospitality edifice on the ground floor features a conference room that can accommodate 120 people, while the rooftop lounge offers a premium space for social gatherings, highlighting the hotel’s focus on providing high-quality services to international and local visitors alike.
Geraldo Alphonso, head of Arimu Investment, reflected on the hotel’s development journey, crediting local contractors and professionals for their contributions. He also announced plans for future projects, including the acquisition of another Best Western franchise, SureStay Plus. Alphonso expressed optimism about the hotel’s prospects, emphasising its potential to attract international visitors and create lasting employment opportunities.
Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry’s (GBTI) CEO, Shawn Gurcharran, highlighted the long-term benefits of the project, pointing to its role in supporting local businesses and generating sustainable employment. He noted that the hotel, funded solely by GBTI, is expected to have a positive ripple effect on various sectors, including food, retail, and transportation.
Delivering the keynote address, President Ali spoke to the importance of local investment in Guyana’s economic growth, commending GBTI for its role in financing the project. He noted that the nation’s competitiveness must extend beyond its borders, stating, “We are part of a global environment, and if we want to win in that environment, we need to learn and adopt a winning culture.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, head of the Guyana Office for Investment (Go-Invest), also used the occasion to praise the project as a significant milestone in Guyana’s hotel development, underscoring the government’s commitment to increasing the country’s accommodation capacity.
According to Dr. Ramsaroop, the Aiden is just the beginning of a larger plan to add 2,000 new rooms across Guyana, which will help meet the growing demand from international visitors and global events.
