Variety- Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love” is feeling more than alright at the global box office. The musical biopic has generated $101.1 million worldwide after only 10 days in theaters, including $61.4 million in North America and $39.7 million from 59 international territories.
“One Love” retained the top spot on domestic charts in its second weekend of release, grossing $3.7 million on Friday. Internationally, the film added $3.3 million on Thursday and expanded into eight new markets this weekend.
“Bob Marley: One Love,” which opened on Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14, beat expectations in its box office debut with $28.6 million over the traditional weekend and $52 million during the six-day holiday stretch. Although the biopic landed mediocre reviews (and holds a 42% average from critics on Rotten Tomatoes), it earned an “A” CinemaScore from early audiences. “One Love” cost $70 million to produce.
Kingsley Ben-Adir leads “Bob Marley: One Love” as the titular reggae legend, with Lashana Lynch co-starring as his wife, Rita Marley. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the film follows the journey behind Marley’s revolutionary music, from his African and European tour in the mid-1970s to the production of his landmark album “Exodus.”
