Head of State, President Irfaan Ali was honoured as the Caribbean Global Leader for 2024 by the Caribbean Global Awards, following an announcement on Saturday. The recognition, determined by public voting earlier this year, saw a record-breaking 609 valid votes cast in the People’s Choice category.
The Caribbean Global Awards also revealed the top 10 Caribbean Global Leaders, highlighting key figures contributing significantly to their respective nations and the broader Caribbean community. President Ali’s selection as the top leader underscores his steadfast commitment to advancing Guyana’s interests while promoting regional cooperation.
His leadership has been recognised as crucial in driving development and fostering prosperity across the Caribbean.Notable leaders joining President Ali in the top ranks include Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada, and Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica, who placed second, third, and fourth, respectively.
Also featured in the list of distinguished leaders are Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Michael Drew of St. Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Ralph Everard Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Prime Minister Phillip Davis of The Bahamas, and Prime Minister Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago.
The leaders were recognized for their exceptional contributions to regional development.Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, President Sylvanie Burton of Dominica, and Guadeloupean actor Michel Reinette also made the list, showcasing the diversity of talent within the region.
In a subsequent statement, the Caribbean Global Awards expressed gratitude to the public for their enthusiastic participation, emphasizing the significant interest in recognizing exemplary leadership in the Caribbean. “Their vision, commitment, and tireless efforts have significantly contributed to the region’s progress and prosperity,” the Awards body noted.
