Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) in Timehri has introduced electronic gates (E-gates) to streamline passenger processing and bolster security measures.
The new system features autonomous immigration checks and passport validation in line with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).In addition to validating passports, the E-gates are designed to integrate with Guyana’s forthcoming e-ID and facial recognition technology.
The system also connects with the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) for real-time updates and automated checks of the electronic embarkation/disembarkation (ED) forms.
Capable of processing up to six passengers simultaneously under the supervision of a single officer, the E-gates promise to significantly reduce wait times while improving overall efficiency. The upgrades also include advanced monitoring systems and glass-panelled structures that ensure full visibility, further preventing unauthorised access.
