The fourth instalment of Guyana’s premier Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo was officially launched today at the Guyana Marriott Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown. The event, themed “Connecting the Dots: Integrating the Future,” promises to attract a global audience by showcasing the nation’s socio-economic and cultural strengths. Scheduled to take place from February 18-21, 2025, at the Marriott Hotel, the conference is expected to draw at least 7,000 delegates, feature over 180 booths, and host more than 70 distinguished speakers.
This year’s conference introduces several new initiatives, including an energy run/walk and an essay competition, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. Additionally, the “Taste of Guyana” event will offer delegates a chance to experience authentic Guyanese cuisine, supported by the Ministries of Culture, Youth and Sport, and Tourism, Industry and Commerce. A conference village will also be established, featuring a farmer’s market and arts and crafts vendors, alongside an innovative digital experience through the “Energy Conference Suite,” which includes a dedicated app and website.
During the launch, Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat welcomed the diverse elements of the event, emphasising Guyana’s emergence as a role model among new oil-producing nations. He highlighted the government’s policies aimed at expanding and incentivizing all sectors of the economy, noting the importance of the energy conference in supporting the development of Guyana’s oil and gas sector.
Minister Bharrat also underscored the impact of the 2021 Local Content Legislation, which has significantly boosted sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and construction. He encouraged local entrepreneurs and businesses to seize the opportunities presented by the high-profile conference and play an active role in the nation’s oil and gas sector.
Kiana Wilburg, the conference’s Chief Executive Officer, outlined key topics on the agenda, including a just energy transition, financing sustainable development, workforce development, resilient supply chains, and the advancement of women in energy. The event will also feature parallel sessions focusing on technical and specialised topics, such as renewable energy integration, supply chain optimization, and the application of AI to enhance efficiency and resilience.
The conference will further extend its cultural reach by inviting delegates to participate in Mashramani activities, showcasing Guyana’s rich cultural heritage. Remarks were also delivered by Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, Chief Investment Officer of the Guyana Office for Investment and Alistair Routledge, President of ExxonMobil Guyana among others.
