Police are investigating an alleged armed robbery that took place on the evening of 25 October 2024 at the An Sheng Supermarket, targeting Chinese national Zhenfa, a businessman from Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara.
According to reports, three identifiable men entered the supermarket around 21:05 hours and stole several items, including three bottles of Hennessy valued at G$60,000, G$150,000 in Digicel and GTT phone cards, and G$500,000 in cash.
The suspects are described as males of African descent with slim builds. The first suspect, about 6 feet tall, wore a black and white long-sleeved hoodie, long black trousers, and a face mask. He was reportedly armed with a handgun and stood guard by the northern door.
The second suspect, approximately 5 feet 8 inches, wore a blue T-shirt, short grey jeans, and a pink cloth mask. The third, about 5 feet 10 inches, wore a black and white hoodie.The police team from Timehri Police Station arrived at the scene at approximately 21:40 hours.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects entered the supermarket as Zhenfa and his staff were preparing to close. The gunman held staff and customers at gunpoint while his accomplices went behind the cashier’s counter to seize the cash and phone cards, while also taking bottles of Hennessy from the shelves.
After the robbery, public-spirited citizens attempted to intervene, prompting the suspects to flee eastward while discharging several rounds into the air to cover their escape.
A subsequent search of the area led to the arrest of 28-year-old Jason Richard of Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, who matched the description seen on CCTV footage. However, the other two suspects remain at large.Investigations are ongoing.
