Chief Inspector Lyte, on March 15th, 2024, at approximately 17:00 hrs, led an Anti-Crime Patrol along Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, when they observed a Toyota Tacoma with registration number PYY 9229 driving recklessly near Jimbo bridge, Grove. Acting on this observation, the patrol stopped the vehicle, instructing the driver to proceed to Grove Police Station under escort.
Identified as Dylan Walker, a 30-year-old Businessman from New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, the driver was accompanied by three other occupants, including Subrina Rhema, a 26-year-old from Plaisance, East Coast of Demerara. A search of the vehicle yielded no illicit items, but attention turned to a black handbag in Rhema’s possession.
Upon inspection of the handbag, law enforcement officials discovered a black .32 Taurus Pistol along with a Magazine containing 11 rounds of .32 ammunition. Questioned about firearm licensing, Rhema admitted she did not possess one, leading to her arrest after claiming, “Dylan put it in my bag.”
Subsequent video and audio interviews conducted separately with Rhema and Walker at the Grove Police Station corroborated their involvement. Walker confessed to possessing the firearm and ammunition, admitting to placing the weapon in Rhema’s bag during transit to the police station. Rhema supported Walker’s account, asserting her belief in Walker’s possession of a valid firearm license.
The events culminated in the arrest of both individuals, with Walker assuming full responsibility for the firearm and ammunition. The case underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal firearm possession and trafficking in the region.
