Ravindra Dharamjit—a relative of a prominent Guyanese auto sales dealer—was recently apprehended by officers of the Criminal Investigations Department and handed over to agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) before being deported to the United States.
According to reports, Dharamjit, who had been evading U.S. authorities while hiding in Guyana, was arrested at a horse racing event at the Rising Sun Turf Club in Berbice.
Dharamjit faces charges in the United States for negligent homicide in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident on December 25, 2019. Court documents indicate that on Christmas Day, Dharamjit allegedly struck and killed 67-year-old Ainsley Dalrymple on Rockaway Boulevard in Queens, New York, before fleeing the scene in a grey or silver Toyota truck. Following the incident, Dharamjit reportedly fled to Guyana, where he was said to be concealed by relatives until his recent arrest.
