The troops deployed to Grenada to assist in the restoration efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl have returned home.
They were welcomed at a reception held at Air Station London, Timehri, on Sunday, according to a release from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The troops’ mission, which spanned 106 days, focused on rehabilitating critical infrastructure, including the Revenue Authority Building, Police Station, Post Office, Magistrate’s Court, and the Office of the Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs. These efforts restored essential services to a community of 6,000 residents, the release noted.

Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, expressed his gratitude to the ranks for their commitment and dedication, which ensured the success of “Operation Beryl.”
He highlighted that the mission was not only accomplished but that the troops had displayed exceptional service to the nation, overcoming significant challenges and returning safely.
Brigadier Khan praised their resilience and their ability to achieve their objectives despite difficult circumstances, aligning with President Irfaan Ali’s mandate to bring hope to the people of Carriacou.
The release also recognised the support of the Private Sector Commission in the rebuilding efforts.
Chairman Komal Singh commended the GDF ranks for their hard work and expressed pride in the successful collaboration.
He reaffirmed the private sector’s commitment to continue supporting the GDF in future endeavours, stating, “We are proud to be part of this collaboration… the Private Sector will remain ready to offer support in times of need.”
