The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), in collaboration with tour agency Wilderness Explorers, recently organised a familiarisation tour for media representatives from North America. This initiative aimed to provide them with firsthand experiences of Guyana’s stunning landscapes and adventurous activities, aligning with the government’s goal of promoting the country as a premier ecotourism destination and fostering meaningful connections between media personnel and local communities.
During the tour, which took place from April 25 to May 2, the group immersed themselves in authentic experiences across various locations in Guyana. These included visits to Waikin Ranch, Caiman House, Yupukari Village, Karanambu Lodge, Rock View Lodge, Atta Rainforest Lodge, Iwokrama Canopy Walkway, and the iconic Kaieteur Falls. These immersive experiences were aimed at enabling the media representatives to create compelling content suitable for their audiences, thereby further promoting Guyana as a must-visit destination.
In a strategic move to enhance Guyana’s presence in the North American travel markets, particularly in the United States and Canada, the GTA had earlier announced the appointment of market representation firm Emerging Destinations in January. These countries are considered core markets for Guyana in North America, as travellers from these regions often seek authentic nature, culture, and adventure-based experiences.
The market representation firm will work tirelessly throughout the year to raise awareness about Guyana, establish its presence in the United States and Canada, stimulate demand, and strengthen direct connections between international tour operators, travellers, and the Guyanese travel trade.
