Guyana’s first state-of-the-art urban eco-lodges, located at Great Diamond on the East Bank Demerara, are now fully furnished and ready to welcome visitors. Head of State, President Irfaan Ali, made the announcement via social media, highlighting the completion of 30 eco-lodges designed and constructed by DuraVilla Homes under the Ministry of Housing.
Built entirely from sustainably harvested materials sourced from Guyana’s forests, the eco-lodges offer an environmentally friendly and durable retreat. The lodges, managed by a workforce of approximately 120 Guyanese women, reflect the government’s focus on using local resources and labour to promote sustainable development.
These modern accommodations feature fully functioning air-conditioning systems, spacious patios, and interiors adorned with locally crafted Guyanese artwork, creating an immersive cultural experience. Outside, guests can enjoy expansive walkways lined with vibrant, colourful plants, offering serene views of the sunset.
Strategically located near the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, the eco-lodges will benefit from improved accessibility upon the completion of the new four-lane Eccles to Great Diamond highway and a new regional hospital. These developments will provide guests with convenient access to essential services.
Representing a fusion of eco-friendly design, local craftsmanship, and cultural promotion, these eco-lodges are a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing Guyana’s housing and tourism sectors for the benefit of its citizens.
