In a landmark development for Guyana’s burgeoning oil, gas tourism and hospitality sectors, Hilton has officially announced the construction of two new luxury hotels along Carifesta Avenue. The dual-branded project, comprising the Hilton Georgetown and DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Georgetown, marks the company’s first venture in Guyana and is set to significantly enhance the capital’s accommodation offerings.
Financed by the Qatar-based Assets Group, the two hotels will form part of an expansive oceanfront, mixed-use business and entertainment complex. With a total of 411 rooms between them, the properties are designed to cater to the needs of both business and leisure travellers. The project’s sod was turned in February of this year, despite ongoing disputes between the government and the Georgetown City Council over the control of the land in question.
Expanding Hilton’s Global Footprint
Hilton’s entry into Guyana in its announcement said it is part of its broader strategy to expand its presence in the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) region, where the company has been rapidly growing. Currently, Hilton operates over 225 hotels in the region and has plans to enter eight new countries, including Guyana, by 2027.
“We believe in investing in Guyana, a country poised for significant growth and a promising future in tourism and hospitality,” said Moutaz Al Khayyat, Chairman of Assets Group. “Our choice to debut in this emerging market reflects our commitment to investing in high-potential destinations and our confidence in Guyana’s trajectory. These properties are meticulously designed to offer a diversity of high-end experiences.”
Juan Corvinos, Senior Vice President of Development, Architecture, Design, and Construction for Hilton in the Caribbean and Latin America region, echoed this sentiment, highlighting Guyana’s potential as a regional business hub and tourism destination.
Luxury and Comfort Awaits
The Hilton Georgetown will be an 11-story property featuring 253 guest rooms and suites, an upscale lobby bar, a signature restaurant with locally inspired menus, and an outdoor pool with all-day dining options. The DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Georgetown will offer 158 contemporary suites, each designed to provide a homely atmosphere where guests can relax and connect. The hotel will uphold the DoubleTree brand’s tradition of welcoming guests with its signature warm chocolate chip cookie upon check-in.
“We are proud to bring the flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand and the renowned DoubleTree by Hilton tradition of warm welcomes and upscale comfort to Guyana,” said Gary Steffen, Global Category Head for Full-Service Brands at Hilton. “We look forward to welcoming travellers and bringing Hilton’s iconic hospitality to Guyana through our award-winning brands.”
Guests at both properties will have access to a member-only Social Club managed by Hilton, which will offer exclusive wellness and recreation amenities, including a fitness centre, spa, coworking space, library, and boardroom designed for business travellers. The Social Club will also feature two full-service dining options, two bars, and a coffee and bakery shop, all accessible to guests, members, and locals.
The complex will also boast a state-of-the-art conference centre, including a 25,900-square-foot ballroom and 10,800 square feet of meeting rooms, making it an ideal venue for meetings, conferences, and events. The facility will be equipped with cutting-edge technology and seamlessly integrated food and beverage offerings.
