Authorities have apprehended an individual sought in connection with several criminal activities, including murder and armed robbery, on the East Coast Demerara (ECD). The suspect was discovered today in possession of an ammunition cache along with marijuana plants and other related paraphernalia.
In what appears to be a coordinated effort by law enforcement, led by an Officer and a team of Police personnel from Regional Division 4C, the suspect, identified as Jamal Anthony Hazel, a 27-year-old Construction Worker, was arrested at his residence in Hope, ECD.
During the raid, authorities uncovered a bag containing eight (8) 12-gauge shotgun cartridges, four (4) live .38 ammunition rounds, and various containers filled with suspected cannabis. It is reported that the suspect attempted to bribe the arresting officers upon being informed of the charges against him.
Subsequent searches around the premises yielded further evidence, including approximately fifteen (15) seedlings suspected to be cannabis plants found atop an old minibus in the front yard.
Hazel was transported to the Cove and John Police Station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed, totaling forty-two (42) grams. Additionally, the tray containing suspected cannabis plants and the bag were confiscated as evidence. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue into the matter.
