The 2024 Business and Investment Conference commences today Friday at the Marriott Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown. The three-day event seeks to promote business opportunities for both expatriates and emigrants, serving as a platform for networking, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas and investment prospects among entrepreneurs, expatriates, emigrants, investors, and philanthropists.
As the second edition of the conference, it aims to strengthen ties between Guyana’s diaspora and international investors, fostering economic growth and development. The initiative was founded by Stacey Mollison, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Libra Management Group.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the Regus Building, Waterloo Street, Georgetown, Mollison detailed the genesis of the conference. She noted that her frequent visits to Guyana sparked her desire to bridge gaps in business knowledge and resources. “I recognised there were many things I wished I had known, resources I wished I had access to,” she remarked.
Mollison further explained that she engaged with various business figures to gauge their interest in exploring investment opportunities in Guyana. Through the Guyana Association of Georgia, she established an online and international community focused on raising awareness and providing educational sessions, working closely with government agencies since 2018. The Business and Investment Conference was launched in 2023 as a result of these efforts. “We are engaging with entrepreneurs from the diaspora who have specific needs as they move forward with business ventures in Guyana,” she added.
One of the highlights of the conference will be a philanthropy project in the Tiger Bay community, Georgetown, where approximately 100 food hampers, clothing, and shoes will be distributed. Mollison also announced that a paediatric medical outreach, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Guyana Police Force, will be conducted in the area. “Small group, big impact,” she commented on the initiative.
Additionally, international delegates will be treated to a bus tour from Ogle, East Coast Demerara, to Linden in Region 10. The conference will feature actor Malik Yoba as a keynote speaker, who will address business innovation in Guyana.
