The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has officially announced the start of motor vehicle registrations under the new “AJ” series, following the conclusion of the previous “AH” series, which reached its maximum capacity of 9,999 vehicles in mid-October.
The “AH” series commenced on 14 June 2024.With the launch of the “AJ” series, GRA has reminded motorists of the standard requirements for registering a new vehicle.
Applicants are advised to provide several essential documents to the Licence Revenue Office, including a completed Motor Vehicle Registration Form, Payment Receipt, Assessment Notice, Original Invoice or Packaging List, Bill of Lading (Way Bill), Original Manufacturer’s Certificate or Salvage Certificate, and official identification such as a valid ID, Passport, or Driver’s Licence.
Additionally, an official translation of registration or cancellation is required for vehicles imported from non-English-speaking countries, along with an E/SAD Declaration or C72 Form. If applicable, a Tax Exemption Letter should also be submitted.The fees for motor vehicle registration vary, with motorcycles incurring a GYD $750 fee, motor cars GYD $1,500, and duplicate registrations GYD $750.
A physical examination will be conducted by a Licence Revenue Officer and a Customs Officer to verify details provided in the application, such as the engine and chassis numbers. The examination will also include checks for any vehicle tint to ensure compliance with legal tint regulations, while a Customs Officer will confirm the accuracy of taxes paid.
Motor vehicles with an engine capacity below 2000cc are not required to undergo a physical examination at the Licence Revenue Office prior to first registration. However, a completed Vehicle Registration Form must be submitted with a Customs declaration in the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA).
This form, available at www.gra.gov.gy, should include important vehicle details such as the chassis number, engine number, colour, make, model, and engine capacity. Dealers and brokers are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of declared information, including taxes.
Non-compliance may result in penalties, such as the suspension or revocation of licenses. In cases where vehicle details cannot be verified at the port of entry, the vehicle must be presented at the Licence Revenue Office for thorough examination to confirm the accuracy of the information provided.
