Bethel Chimezie, the Nigerian national behind the incident at the State House in Georgetown in December 2022, has been sentenced to three (3) months’ imprisonment along with three years of supervised probation.
Chimezie was apprehended on January 16, 2023, by Assistant Superintendent Rodwell Sarrabo on charges of Discharging a Loaded Firearm with Intent and Attempted Murder against Telon Perreira during the incident at State House on Carmichael Street, Georgetown. He was formally charged on January 19, 2023, and appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan, where bail was denied, and no plea was required.
Today, however, Chimezie pleaded guilty before Magistrate Rondel Weever at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
During sentencing, the Court considered a maximum guideline of fifteen months but factored in the time Chimezie had already spent on remand. Despite the sentence, it’s important to note that the accused has other matters pending before the court.
