The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) convened its first Central Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, following its 22nd Biennial Delegates Congress. During the meeting, Party Leader Aubrey C. Norton exercised his constitutional authority to appoint Mr. Sherwin Christopher Benjamin as the new General Secretary of the party.
Mr. Benjamin, a long-time party member since 1997, brings extensive experience and commitment to his new role. His tenure within the PNCR has seen him hold several key positions in the Guyana Youth and Students Movement (GYSM), including Group Chairman, Regional Vice Chairman for Region 6, National Executive Committee Member, and National Treasurer. Currently, he serves as the Regional Representative to the PNCR’s Central Executive Committee for Region 4.
In his professional capacity, Mr. Benjamin is an accomplished lawyer, admitted to the Fiji Bar in July 2015. His educational background includes studies at the GuySuCo Training Centre, New Amsterdam Technical Institute, Critchlow Labour College, Project Management Institute, University of Guyana, and the University of Fiji.
According to the party, as General Secretary, Mr. Benjamin is poised to play a crucial role in enhancing the PNCR’s organizational efficiency, readiness, and appeal, especially as the party and country gear up for upcoming regional and national elections. He will collaborate closely with the party’s leadership and members to ensure adherence to the PNCR’s mission and vision.
