Police Constable Mark Forde has been placed under close arrest following an incident involving the alleged assault of his 17-year-old son.
The Guyana Police Force confirmed the arrest in an official statement after a video surfaced showing Forde allegedly striking his son during a dispute at their home.
The incident reportedly occurred around 19:00hrs on September 30, 2024, when Forde accused his son of refusing to complete his household chores. The confrontation escalated, leading to Forde allegedly hitting his son, resulting in visible injuries to his face and body.
The teen fled to the home of his uncle, Joseph Grant, an Inspector of Police, who accompanied him to the Parfaite Harmonie Police Station to file a formal report. The teenager was later directed to seek medical attention for his injuries.
Constable Forde was subsequently arrested and placed under close arrest at the La Grange Police Station as the investigation continues.
The Guyana Police Force noted that further actions will be determined pending the outcome of the investigation.
