Regional Security Officer at the US Embassy, Timothy Semons, met with senior officials of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday to discuss initiatives aimed at improving the GPF’s effectiveness through specialised training, intelligence sharing, and access to technical resources.
According to a press statement from the GPF, Acting Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken led the local delegation in discussions with Semons and his team. The meeting underscored the ongoing collaboration between the United States and Guyana, focusing on enhancing security efforts and bolstering law enforcement capabilities.
The talks centred on technical support and capacity-building initiatives to be provided by US law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the International Law Enforcement Academy.The initiatives discussed are designed to strengthen the operational capacity of the GPF and enhance its crime-fighting efforts through specialised training, intelligence sharing, and access to advanced technical resources.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in extensive discussions on how US agencies can assist the GPF in improving investigative techniques, intelligence operations, and overall security infrastructure. Mutual support was a key theme, as both parties explored areas for increased collaboration.
Meanwhile, Hicken used the occasion to also express gratitude for the US government’s ongoing support of the GPF’s mission to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law. In response, while Semons reaffirmed the US Embassy’s commitment to working closely with the GPF to address shared security challenges and enhance law enforcement proficiency.
