Police are currently investigating an alleged armed robbery that occurred on Saturday night at a hairdressing salon in Wismar, Linden.
The victim, 27-year-old hairdresser Mockesha Standford, was reportedly robbed at gunpoint at around 21:20 hrs while at her salon, Kesha Slay Zone, located on Coca Road.According to the police, the suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’4″ tall, dark in complexion, with short dreadlocks, and wearing a black mask that partially covered his face. He was armed with a handgun during the incident.
Standford reported being robbed of $130,000 in cash, while a gold ring valued at $60,000, belonging to customer Annilie Pelew, was also stolen. At the time of the robbery, Standford was accompanied by a salon employee, Shameza Hollingsworth, and two customers, Pelew and Shamiah Inniss.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect entered the salon with a firearm, demanding money and valuables. After taking the cash and the gold ring, the assailant fired a shot, injuring Standford in the lower right leg before fleeing the scene.
Standford was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where she received treatment for her injuries. Her condition is currently stable.Police who responded to the scene recovered a suspected 9mm spent shell and have interviewed several individuals, gathering useful information. The investigation is ongoing.
