Head of State, President Irfaan Ali has announced that Amerindian communities will receive 26.5 percent of the country’s carbon credit revenue, marking an 11.5 percent increase from the previous allocation. The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the National Toshaos Conference at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
President Ali highlighted that this decision reflects the government’s deep commitment to enhancing the well-being of Amerindian communities. He emphasized that the additional funds will be directed towards targeted investments in education, healthcare, social welfare, sports, and other essential areas, furthering the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve living standards for indigenous Guyanese.
In his address, President Ali reaffirmed the government’s dedication to the development and empowerment of Amerindian communities, pledging continued support and resources to uplift their quality of life.
As part of these efforts, the President also presented Absolute Grants and Certificates of Title to seven communities under the Amerindian Land Titling Programme. The communities of Hotaquai, Hobodia, Red Hill, Akawini, and Moco Moco received Absolute Grants for land extension, while Arau and Karasabai were awarded Certificates of Title.
