The Speaker of the National Assembly of Guyana, Manzoor Nadir, is currently leading a distinguished delegation to Beijing, China, from August 19 to 28, 2024 at the invitation of His Excellency Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China.
The Guyanese delegation, led by Speaker Nadir, includes Member of Parliament (MP) Faizal Jaffarally, opposition Chief Whip Christopher Jones, and Ms. Carlleta Charles, Parliamentary Executive Officer. The visit coincides with the 40th Anniversary of the NPC’s affiliation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 2024 Seminar on the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Parliaments of Developing Countries.
A seminar, scheduled for Wednesday, today August 21, 2024, will feature high-level discussions on key global issues, including maintaining peace and stability, aligning development strategies, respecting cultural diversity, and promoting a development democracy tailored to national conditions. Jaffarally is slated to deliver a presentation, contributing to these crucial dialogues.
Throughout the visit, the delegation is expected to also engage in meetings with top officials, including HE Zhao Leji and Hon. Tulia Ackson, President of the IPU, further strengthening the ties between Guyana and China.
