A man from the Strathspey Squatting Area has pleaded guilty to the murder of his partner’s mother, an incident that occurred four years ago.
Linden Junior Isaacs appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Demerara High Court yesterday, where he admitted to fatally stabbing 56-year-old Velma Pickering on 11 May 2020 at Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara.According to facts presented in court, Isaacs, who was 28 at the time, launched a violent attack on Pickering while she was at home with her toddler grandson.
Despite sustaining multiple stab wounds inflicted with an ice pick, Pickering managed to escape her house but collapsed in a neighbour’s yard. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital, with the cause of death determined as perforation of the heart.
The court also heard that Pickering had frequently intervened to protect her daughter from the abusive relationship she was in with Isaacs.Isaacs is set to return to court on 14 November 2024 for sentencing.
