Police ranks from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), in collaboration with other anti-crime patrol units, made a significant discovery during a routine stop on D’Urban Street between Mandela Avenue and John Street late last night. Acting on information received, officers intercepted a silver-grey Toyota Allion, registration number PAF 6829, with three occupants at approximately 23:30 hrs.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 27-year-old Neagus Lamonzon, a security guard residing at Lot 61 D’Urban Street, Lodge. Also in the vehicle were two labourers: 29-year-old Randolph Norton of Lot 233 A Field, Sophia, seated in the front passenger seat, and 28-year-old Jamal Hazel of Lot 490 A Field, Sophia, seated in the rear.Upon searching the three men, officers found no illegal items on their persons. However, a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a silver and black Smith and Wesson .40 pistol, serial number FZD7331, with a magazine containing 13 rounds of .40 ammunition.
Additionally, a black Glock 19 pistol, serial number BZFY299, with a magazine holding 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition, was found behind the vehicle’s deck, along with a white box containing 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition.When questioned, the men denied being licensed firearm holders and claimed no knowledge of the firearms and ammunition. They were promptly informed of the offences committed, arrested, and cautioned.
The firearms, ammunition, and motor vehicle were seized and taken to the East La Penitence Police Station, where the items were marked and sealed for further examination at the Ballistics Section.Lamonzon stated that the vehicle belongs to his mother, who is currently in the United States.The three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
