In a major police operation yesterday, September 16, law enforcement officers in Regional Division 4A carried out raids across various locations in Georgetown, leading to the arrest of several wanted individuals and the seizure of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The raid, which took place between 4:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., targeted areas including Independence Boulevard, North Ruimveldt, and Sophia, among others.
During the operation, Nicholas Singh, also known as ‘Pookie’, a 25-year-old from Durban Street, was arrested for the murder of Natram Persaud, which took place on December 31, 2023, at Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara. Singh had been on the police’s wanted list.
In a separate arrest, Rondell Vanrossum, a 45-year-old from Lodge, was found in possession of an unlicensed Glock 9mm pistol and ten rounds of ammunition. Additionally, police detained 51-year-old Julian Aaron from East Ruimveldt, who was found with a quantity of ammunition, and 20-year-old Lorenzo Heywood from Coldingen, East Coast Demerara, who is wanted in connection with multiple armed robberies.
The raid, which involved the search of several homes and individuals, was led by Detective Assistant Superintendents Sarrabo and Bacon, along with Assistant Superintendent Khan and other officers.
